Suspects toss thousands out windows during rush-hour pursuit
SAN DIEGO – Police officers picked up more than $17,000 that was tossed by fleeing suspects during a chase Thursday that slowed rush-hour traffic to a crawl and prompted some motorists to stop their vehicles on the freeway to pick up cash.
The chase began about 5 p.m. on state Route 15 near Interstate 805. The fleeing driver of a pickup truck exited SR-15 at Ocean View Boulevard, then re-entered the freeway southbound. The driver headed south to National City, then turned north onto I-805.
Suspects were flinging cash out the windows of the pickup as the pursuit continued north on I-805, police said. Officers said bills were thrown out the windows along the freeway at El Cajon Boulevard, Murray Ridge Road, Miramar Road and La Jolla Village Drive.
The pursuit ended on I-805 near Interstate 5 when officers arrested the suspects at gunpoint, bringing traffic to a halt.
It was not immediately disclosed what the suspects were wanted for or where they got the money. They reportedly were armed.
More than an hour after the chase began, officers were still collecting the scattered money. They said $17,200 had been picked up, mostly in $20 and $100 bills.
Police said a 16-year-old boy who had picked up $570 later turned in the money at the department’s northeastern division station.

Just this morning, I was speeding through an intersection and plowed right into a Monavie Distributor (unintentionally of course, as my Thursday maniacal driving sprees are reserved strictly for Jehovah’s Witnesses).
After the impact, I watched him fly about 50 feet into the air. After 3 astounding somersaults, gravity got the best of him and he began to come back down. His descent was epic. His landing, thunderous. The last thing I heard before his face hit the cold, hard pavement was:
“Drink it. Feel it. SPLAT!!!”
I think he DEFINITELY felt it.
Horrified, I closed my eyes for a minute. In my area, violence against Monavie Distributors is illegal. If convicted, I could face a fine of up to $1000. I have already been let off with a warning twice.
I gathered myself, opened my eyes, and stepped out of the car to see how bad it was. Would my insurance cover the damage to my car in an event like this? Would the police let me off with another warning?

The lifeless mass of a Monavie Distributor I expected to find on the ground was GONE!!!
No blood. No guts. Just a few Monavie business cards. A picture of Dallin Larsen. And a broken bottle of $40 fruit syrup.
I looked to my left; I looked to my right. I looked everywhere. The only visible reminders of this event were the shards of glass by my feet, the dents and chips on my front bumper, and a faint purple trail running its course along the road, quietly fading into the distance.
If this isn’t a testament to the extraordinary healing powers of Monavie, then I don’t know what is.

Paraplegic Walks With Cure From Brown Recluse Spider Bite
California: In what doctors are calling a miracle, 48-year-old Manteca resident David Blancarte can walk again after 20 years thanks to being bitten by the highly venomous brown recluse spider. He was left a paraplegic after a motorcycle accident.
After getting out of the hospital from the bite, he spent eight months in rehabilitation. A test was run by a nurse on his leg to investigate a spasm. “When they zapped my legs, I felt the current, I was like ‘whoa’ and I yelled.”
“She says, ‘your nerves are alive. They’re just asleep.’” After that, it only took five days before he could abandon his wheelchair and leave the hospital. He’s hopeful he’ll now be able to walk his twin daughters down the aisle someday.

Man Survives Niagra Falls Plunge
No barrel, no clothes!
A man went over Niagara Falls and survived Wednesday afternoon, one of the few people to ever survive the plunge unprotected, authorities said. It is unclear whether the man chose not to aid in his rescue or was physically unable to do so, officials say.
The man was seen entering the icy water just above Horseshoe Falls, on the Canadian side, and apparently jumped in about 2:15 p.m, Niagara Falls, Ontario, Fire Chief Lee Smith said.
Smith said the unidentified man was in the near-freezing water for “40-plus” minutes before he was rescued by Niagara Parks Police and Niagara Falls firefighter Todd Brunning.
Brunning, who was tethered to shore, swam about 60 meters (nearly 200 feet) into the river and was able to get hold of the man and bring him to shore.
Niagara Parks Police initially used a helicopter from a private company, Niagara Falls Helicopters, to attempt a rescue of the man. When that failed, they used the wind from the chopper’s rotors to push the man closer to shore, Smith said. Video Watch chopper hover over man in icy water »
He said the man was “being rotated in a cyclic fashion” by the river’s very strong currents.

The man did not aid in his rescue, officials said, though it was not immediately clear whether he was physically unable to or he did not want to do so.
Niagara Falls Fire Capt. Dave Belme said the man was not wearing any clothes when he was rescued, but he added that it’s not unexpected for a person to lose things while being washed down the falls.
The man’s “chances of survival without the quick response would be lessened,” Smith said.
All of the agencies train for situations like this, he said, and they are put to the test about a dozen times a year. Still, he called Wednesday’s rescue “amazing.”
