What to
do when casting out a demon By John
Chopores What to do when casting out a
demon!
Mat 17:17 Then Jesus answered and said, O
faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you?
how long shall I suffer you? bring him hither to me. Mat 17:18 And Jesus rebuked the devil; and
he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very
hour. Mat 17:19 Then came the disciples to Jesus
apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out? Mat 17:20 And Jesus said unto them,
Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have
faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain,
Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be
impossible unto you. When casting out a demon, use
the name of Jesus! MAT 7:22 Many will say to me in
that day, Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy by thy name, and by thy [1]name
cast out demons, and by thy name do many mighty works?
(ASV) (Philippians 2:9-10
KJV) (9) Wherefore God also hath
highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:
(10) That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of {things}
[1]in heaven, and {things} in [2]earth, and {things}
under the earth; [1] 2032. ep-oo-ran'-ee-os; from G1909 and G3772; above
the sky:--celestial, (in) heaven (-ly), high. "from epi (1909), upon, in, and
ouranos (3772), heaven. Heavenly,
celestial, what pertains to or is in heaven." [CWSD. PAGE.
646.]. [2] 1919. ep-ig'-i-os; from G1909 and G1093; worldly
(phys. or mor.):--earthly, in earth, terrestrial. "from epi (1909),
upon, and ge (1093), the earth. Earthly,
being upon the earth..." [CWSD. PAGE.623.]. But use it with respect, or
it may not work! Cf. (Acts 19:13-17
KJV) (13) Then certain of the
vagabond Jews,[1] exorcists, took upon them to call over them which had
evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, We[2] adjure you by
Jesus whom Paul preacheth. (14) And there were seven sons of {one}
Sceva, a Jew, {and} chief of the priests, which did so. (15) And the evil
spirit answered and said, Jesus I[3] know, and Paul I[4] know; but who are
ye? (16) And the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, and
overcame them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled
out of that house naked and wounded. (17) And this was known to all
the Jews and Greeks also dwelling at Ephesus; and fear fell on them all,
and the name of the Lord Jesus was magnified. [1] exorkistes, "one who uses an oath,
i.e. one who by adjuration professess to expel demons" [BULLINGER.
PAGE. 268.], ""one who employs a formula of conjuration for the expulsion
of demon,"" [VINE. PAGE. 217.]. One of the things that God is saying here
is, do not rely on human oaths (that have no Divine power behind them) to
cast out demons! cf. MAT 6:7 But when ye pray, use not vain
repetitions, as the heathen {do}: for they think that they shall be
heard for their much speaking. (KJV) JAM 5:12 But above all things,
my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, neither by the earth,
neither by any other oath: but let your yea be yea; and {your} nay,
nay; lest ye fall into condemnation. (KJV) [2] hokizo, "to cause to swear, to lay
under the obligation of an oath, to beseech, conjure" [BULLINGER. PAGE.
27.]. present indicative active, the "present indicative asserts
something which is occurring while the speaker is making the statement"
CWSNT. PAGE. 857.]. The Jewish exorcists, thought that the "evil spirit"
was being cast out, even as they were speaking, but it was not!
[3] ginosko, "to perceive, observe, obtain
a knowledge of or insight into. " [BULLINGER. PAGE.
434.]. [4] epistamai, "to fix one's mind upon,
i.e. to understand,... to know well" [BULLINGER. PAGE. 435.], "to
know of" [VINE. PAGE. 347.]. There is great power in the name of
Jesus! Cf. MAT 28:18 And Jesus came and
spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in
earth. (KJV) (Philippians 2:9-11
KJV) (9) Wherefore God also hath
highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: (10)
That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of {things} in heaven,
and {things} in earth, and {things} under the earth; (11) And {that} every
tongue should confess that Jesus Christ {is} Lord, to the glory of God the
Father. Be careful to not use vain
repetitions! Cf. (Matthew 6:7-8
KJV) (7) But when ye pray, use
not[1] vain repetitions, as the heathen {do}: for they think that they
shall be heard for their much speaking. (8) Be not ye therefore like unto
them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask
him. [1] battologeo, "to babble, ...
[battologeo] originally signified to stammer; then,
to babble, chatter; so, to use empty words" [BULLINGER. PAGE.
639.], ""to repeat idly,"" [VINE. PAGE. 525.]. aorist subjunctive used
as an imperative, it "usually forbids an action which is not in
progress, and thus commands that it not be started" [CWSNT. PAGE.
851.]. MAT 8:16 When the even was
come, they brought unto him many that were possessed with devils: and
he[1] cast out the spirits with {his} word, and healed all that were sick:
(KJV) [1] aorist indicative
active, the "aorist indicative expresses action that is not
continuous" [CWSNT. PAGE. 850.]. Always, be seeking the Gifts
and Power of the Holy Spirit. For it is in the name of Jesus and by the
power of the Holy Spirit, that you are able to cast out demons!
cf.Mat
12:28 But if I cast out
devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come unto
you. MAT 8:16 And when even was
come, they brought unto him many [1]possessed with demons: and he cast out
the spirits with a [2] word, and healed all that were sick:
(ASV) [2] present passive/middle
passive [2] logos, "the word, ... the spoken
word; the word, not in its outward form, but as connected with the
inward thought; the word, not written, but spoken; the word,
not as a part of speech, but as part of what is uttered"
[BULLINGER. PAGE. 896.], "I. As respects SPEECH: 1. a word, yet not in the
grammatical sense ..., but language, vox, i.e. a word which,
uttered by the living voice, embodies a conception or idea" [THAYER. PAGE.
380.], ""the expression of thought"-not the mere name of an object" [VINE.
PAGE.683.] Jesus used the words of God
(the Bible) in handing the Devil. cf. MAT 4:4 But he answered and
said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by
every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
(KJV) MAT 4:7 Jesus said unto him,
It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.
(KJV) MAT 4:10 Then saith Jesus unto
him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship
the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.
(KJV) MAT 4:11 Then the devil
leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.
(KJV) Never try to use, the power and
ways of Satan, to cast out a demon! Cf. MAR 3:23 And he called them
{unto him}, and said unto them in parables, How can Satan cast out
Satan? (KJV) (Acts 19:13-17
KJV) (13) Then certain of the
vagabond Jews, exorcists, took upon them to call over them which
had evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, We adjure you by
Jesus whom Paul preacheth. (14) And there were seven sons of {one} Sceva,
a Jew, {and} chief of the priests, which did so. (15) And the evil spirit
answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye? (16) And
the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, and overcame them, and
prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and
wounded. (17) And this was known to all the Jews and Greeks also dwelling
at Ephesus; and fear fell on them all, and the name of the Lord
Jesus was magnified. MAT 9:34 But the Pharisees[1]
said, He casteth out devils through the[2] prince of the devils. (KJV) Not
so, for Jesus always did the will of God! [1] imperfect tence,
continuous action in past time. [2] archon, "one first in power,
authority, or dominion; hence, a ruler, lord, prince, chief
person" [BULLINGER. PAGE. 602.], "the present participle of the verb
archo, "to rule"; denotes "a ruler, a prince."" [VINE. PAGE.
487.]. Sometimes when the spirit leaves a
person, it will throw the person down! LUK 9:42 And as he was yet a
coming, the devil threw him down, and tare {him}. And Jesus rebuked
the unclean spirit, and healed the child, and delivered him again to his
father. (KJV) After the evil spirit, is cast
out. Give the glory to God! Cf. John 2:11 This beginning of miracles did
Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth his glory; and his
disciples believed on him.John 8:50
And I seek not mine own glory: there is one that seeketh and
judgeth. Phil 2:11 And that
every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God
the Father. [1]4191., pon-ay-rot'-er-os; compar. of G4190; more evil:--more wicked. "wicked or malevolently evil. More wicked"...CWSD. PAGE. 1199.]. causing...sorrow, pain...evil in nature or quality [BULLINGER. PAGE. 881.]. [1]onoma, "that by which one is known, the name by which a person or thing is called; hence, the peoper name or appellation of a person" [BULLINGER. PAGE. 515.].
